SC registrar is bound to appear before PAC, says AG

ISLAMABAD: Talking to newsmen in Islamabad on Friday, Attorney General Irfan Qadir said that avoiding appearance before PAC by Registrar SC is beyond comprehension. He is bound to appear as registrars of apex court have been appearing in the committees earlier.

SC accounts be above board and transparent, he said adding PAC has to review the details of expenses of SC rather than conduct of the judges.

His appearance leaves no negative impact on independence of judiciary, he added.

It should be mentioned here that the court on Thursday said in an official statement that the SC Registrar will not appear before the PAC.

The apex court categorically asserted the parliamentary body has no constitutional authority to scrutinize the apex court’s accounts, as Article 175-3 of the Constitution separates the judiciary from the executive, and that the PAC can only scrutinize national accounts.

The statement also mentioned that it was issued after a full court meeting that decided that Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan Dr Faqir Hussain will not appear before the PAC.
