Heavy Losses Inflicted upon Terrorists, Non-Syrians Killed in Lattakia

PROVINCES, (SANA)- Units of the armed forces on Friday targeted gatherings and dens for armed terrorist groups affiliated to Jabhat al-Nusra in a number of villages in Lattakia province.

An official source told SANA reporter that the armed forces killed and injured a large number of terrorists in the villages of al-Qasab, al-Furunluq, al-Kouz, al-Mahabeh, al-Kabir, Beit Ibleq, al-Kindasiyeh, al-Sawdaa and al-Khadreh.

The terrorists' equipment and weapons were destroyed, including missiles and heavy machineguns, according to the source.

The source added that several non-Syrian terrorists were identified among the dead, including Abo Mus'ab and Abo al-Samad from Libya, Abo Qutaida from Yemen and Nour Allah from Saudi Arabia.

Terrorists Mohammad Deeb Safwan al-Hassan, Hamid al-Sheikh, Hayan al-Seraj, Amer Karmo, Ahmad Hamameh, Munir al-Eitani, Samer al-Eitani, Ghayath Abo Shurouq, Tawfiq al-Kharfan, Fayez Awad al-Salim and Khalid al-Bitar.

Bus inferno kills 42 in China

XIAMEN CITY(CHINA),At least 42 people have been killed and more than two dozens injured after an overcrowded express bus burst into flames on an elevated roadway in southeastern China.

The blaze occurred during the evening rush hour in the prosperous port city of Xiamen in Fujian Province on Friday.
“Forty-two people died and 33 others were injured after a bus burst into flames on an elevated bus lane in Xiamen City,” Xinhua news agency quoted an official as saying.
The death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
The fire, whose cause is under investigation, brought the entire Bus Rapid Transit system to a halt.
Automotive accidents are common on China's congested roads.
In August 2012, at least 36 people died when a double-decker sleeper bus slammed into the rear of a methanol tanker.

Khursheed Shah named as Opposition Leader in NA

ISLAMABAD:Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq Friday declared Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Khursheed Shah as the Leader of the Opposition.

The decision was taken in pursuance of the Rule 39 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. A notification, in this regard, was also issued by the NA secretariat on Friday.

The PPP had won 124 out of the total 342 National Assembly in 2008 general elections, but managed to win only 41 in 2013, making it the second largest political party after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

During the last five years, Shah was the chief whip of PPP in the house and was one of the few members of the ruling party who attended the most number lower house sessions.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, PPP has won only two general seats in Punjab and 31 from its traditional stronghold Sindh. After winning 33 general seats, the party was allocated seven  reserved seats for women and one reserved seat for minorities.

Election results suggested that a possible alliance between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) which has 35 seats and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) which has 23 seats could have denied PPP from the leader of the opposition slot but this did not happen.

According to legal experts, the opposition leader has as crucial role as the Prime Minister and is constitutionally bound to consult him on several matters including the appointment of chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), formation of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and most importantly appointment of caretaker prime minister.

In addition, the opposition leader also bears a role in parliamentary committee for the appointment of superior courts judges through the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

During the last five years, the PPP government has laid foundation of a new practice by appointing leader of the opposition as Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) first.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had officiated as Chairman PAC, but had resigned from the office after differences with the government over the appointment of a handpicked Auditor General of Pakistan.

Shahrukh Jatoi gets capital punishment in Shahzeb Khan murder case

KARACHI:An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday handed death sentences to a son of an influential man and his accomplice for murdering a young man in cold blood last year and fleeing abroad conveniently, prompting the apex court of Pakistan to step in to ensure justice.

Judge Mustafa Memon of the ATC awarded death sentence to 19-year Sharukh Jatoi, who is the son of a wealthy man having strong clout in the power corridors.

Another accused Siraj Talpur was given capital punishment whereas Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, the two other co-accuseds were given life imprisonment.

The young Jatoi came out of the court smiling and waving the sign of victory as his hands were handcuffed.

Nawaz Sharif's 25-member Pakistan cabinet takes oath

ISLAMABAD: The 25-member cabinet of Pakistan's new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was today sworn in at a ceremony at the presidency today.
Among those who took oath were 16 federal ministers, including Ishaq Dar who is tipped to become the Finance Minister, and nine ministers of state.
They were administered the oath of office by President Asif Ali Zardari, two days after Mr Sharif was sworn in after being formally elected the Prime Minister by the National Assembly or lower house of parliament.

A majority of the new ministers are from Mr Sharif's PML-N party, which swept the May 11 general elections.
One member each from the PML-F and National People's Party was included in the cabinet.
The NPP has already announced its merger with the PML-N. Most of the new ministers are from Punjab, the traditional stronghold of the PML-N.
There were 19 ministers from the country's largest province, three from Sindh, two from Balochistan and one from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Only two women - Anusha Rehman and Saira Afzal Tarar - were included as ministers of state.
Besides Mr Dar, the other federal ministers are Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Khwaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Zahid Hamid, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Lt Gen (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Pervaiz Rashid, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Khwaja Saad Rafique, Sikander Bosan, Chaudhry Muhammad Barjis Tahir, Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashidi, Sardar Mohammad Yousuf and Kamran Michael.

Pakistan’s HC to Britain Wajid Shamsul Hasan resigns

LONDON: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Britain, Wajid Shamsul Hasan resigned from his post on Thursday.
Hasan had been serving as the High Commissioner since June 2008 and had succeeded Dr. Maleeha Lodhi. Wajid Shamsul Hasan has a post graduate degree in International Relations and had worked as a journalist for several years.
